I am firmly rooted; I can’t change my roots

But there is no limit to how far my branches may spread

I don’t know who I will be yet

I bend with the wind

Feel the warmth of the sun, the cleansing rain

Asleep in the winter, blissfully alive by spring

These passages make me who I am

I can feel myself pushing and changing with each year

Gradually transforming into my adult form

But my branches are unruly

They beg to be trimmed and tailored to fit a mould;

There is a way that I should look

And while my appearance is predictable

There is mystery beneath

Underneath it all, filling the space between then and now.
